Our Leadership Team
Stuart P. Kingsbery
Stuart, along with Bob Linville, founded the firm in February of 1980.
Stuart grew up in Beaumont, Texas and graduated in accounting from Texas A&M University (summa cum laude). He worked for Ernst and Ernst in Houston prior to coming to Colorado in 1979. He graduated with a law degree in 1982 from the University of Colorado. Stuart and Bob started the CPA firm when they were both in law school, and continued it after graduation. In 1984, Stuart, Bob, and his brother Walter also started a law firm specializing in trusts, estates, and business entities. Stuart was active in the law practice until the mid-1990s when the combined firms outgrew their space and the law firm moved down the mall. Bob Linville sold his interest in both firms in 1987. Stuart continues to be a licensed attorney although he is no longer actively practicing law.
Stuart works in almost every tax area – however, a significant portion of his practice deals with estates and trusts, partnerships/LLCs, purchase and sale of businesses, business entity selection, small business advising, and tax planning for high net worth families. Stuart spends a lot of his time helping our staff resolve complex tax issues for all of our clients.
Stuart is a member of the AICPA, Colorado Society of CPAs, the Colorado Bar Association, the Boulder County Bar Association, and the Boulder County Estate Planning Council (where he holds the Accredited Estate Planner designation). He served as President of the Boulder County Estate Planning Council and also served on the ethics committee of the Colorado Society of CPAs. Stuart has been active on many Boulder County nonprofit boards and was Chairman of the Emergency Family Assistance (EFAA) Board, and the Board of The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County. He also chaired the board of the Brewer’s Association (based in Boulder), although he acknowledges this probably doesn’t count as a charitable activity.
Stuart married Lauren Kingsbery in 1983 (a law school classmate) and they have 2 wonderful daughters, Kate and Sarah. Stuart enjoys mountain biking, golf, traveling, snowshoeing, reading, and bad guitar playing. Stuart has been so fortunate to be able to work over the years with such a wonderful group of shareholders and employees. He is proud to be starting his 35th year with the firm.
